TRANSLUCENT WALL PANELS: One of the major attractions at
Disney's Epcot Center Florida, is the Coral Reef Restaurant. The
dinning area over looks a clear Acrylic wall 8’X 24’ X
8” thick, (largest single casting ever attempted) part of the
203’ feet diameter 27’ deep Caribbean Coral Reef Tank.
This tank is home to 8,500 inhabitants including dolphins, sea lions,
sharks and other predators swimming and entertaining the restaurant’s
guests.
It was anticipated that at peak hours, restaurant guests would be
waiting to be seated. The design was sensitive to inviting the guests
and creating a warm atmosphere while waiting, entertaining guests
through visual effects, by dressing up sea-life walls from the exterior
into the interior. The sea-life walls and column panels are semi-translucent
“Durazzo”acrylic panels, with mother-of-pearl designs
flowing and continuing from one panel to another, sparkled with
beach sand background. A light source shines behind the panels making
the embedded sea shells, star fish, sea horse semi-visible. All
panel edges were curved or bull-nosed avoiding any sharp edges.
“Durazo” panels were pre-fabricated with “Z”
clips backing for ease of installation and dressing up the walls
and columns. DURITE received a letter of praise from Disney calling
those panels “Works of Art”. |
