Terrazzo Bathroom Vanity Tops: The Union Square W-Hotel is
a Landmark Building constructed originally in a Second Empire Style
Architecture. This former Guardian Life Building was transformed
and under gone major interior renovation. Designed by famed architect
David Rockwell, the interior renovation incorporate modern, luxurious,
environment that was sensitive to the building’s traditional
architecture and the Union square neighborhood. Durite R&D worked
with Rockwell Architects to develop an E-poxy based material that
was highly attractive, none-cementatious, water-proof, tightly packed
and esthetically resembling natural stone look, rather than widely
used counter tops that resemble plastics. The final approved material
was an E-poxy based binder, light peach in color mixed with medium
sized mother-of-pearls, sea-shells, mixed with fine quartz and marble
aggregates. A prototype of the vanity top was produced by DURITE
for approval and use in 270 rooms. The vanity tops had to be cut
based on sink templates oval-shaped under-mount sink, and pre-drilled
holes for water faucet. The inner exposed edges around the sink
had to be polished. Detailed bull-nose honing around exposed vanity
edge and back-splash further enhanced the design. Durite’s
cost-effective, highly stylized terrazzo vanity tops added glamour
to the bathrooms and won the praised of all. |
