Complete design from material innovation to final product.

Who is Durite?
History & Experience:

Durite® is manufacturer and installer of advanced & pioneering surfacing materials, combining centuries of Italian artistic craft with US/Japanese high technological advancements. Durite maintains offices in Saluzzo Italy, Osaka Japan, USA and Canada. Durite® USA, has an East Coast Tri-States region (NY/NJ/CT) operations with production plants and sales representatives in Mid-West (Clayton, Ohio) and in the West Coast (LA, California). Durite® has partnered with architects/interior designers, manufacturers, material sales representatives and stone suppliers to expand its new material technologies.

Durite® is an internationally registered trademark with many products and concepts that are pioneering in the construction Industry. Natural stone aggregates mixed with polymers (such as E-poxy, Rasin & Polyester, etc.) offers endless possibilities to design, mix, colors, creating exquisite exterior and interior walls and floors surface coverings.

Durite® began more than three decades ago manufacturing acrylic & mixed polymers for exterior building surfaces in the Far-East and Europe where building codes allowed the use of exterior synthetic materials prior to the US in the late 70's. The objective was to achieve a composite material with infinite colors and textured designs using binding agents that had "none-shrinkage" (hair-line cracking), "none-cementatious"(none-porous) characteristics. The result was usage of natural stones such as marble/ granite/ natural quartz in different sizes from powder to granular form (for UV color stability) and for smooth or rough texture, mixed with polymers depending on the desire to achieve "Hardness" or "Elasticity" and "Waterproofing" characteristics. Durite's Pre-cast Exterior Lime Stone/ Brown Stone & other natural stone finish for building exteriors, spans over two decades in the U.S. tested under extreme climate conditions from the West to East Coast & internationally from the Far-East to Europe. Our completed projects after 15 to 20 years still stands as a testimony to our advanced materials engineering showing no signs of deterioration, shrinkage cracks. The knowledge of working with polymers and natural stones lead to our new material technologies and innovation working with mixed polymers for direct surface applications that is decades ahead of it's time well in to the new era and a product for the 21st Century of Design & Architecture.

Durite® building exterior division was among the first companies in America to introduce the EIFS (Exterior Insulated Finish Systems). Many of our projects nationally and internationally stand after three decades without any surface deterioration (hairline cracks, water/moisture penetration). During the late 80's, the exterior market place was flooding with color cementatious materials, and other exterior surfacing that did not perform as promised. Some big name companies sold surfacing materials as waterproofing without any membrane barrier. Others used it as a floor surfacing material in parking structures and any surface they could think of!

The result was a decline in quality and proper application, driving the cost down to few dollars per square foot. It was at this time that Durite decided to cater to projects that valued its exterior. Projects that needed the looks of stone with less maintenance and more cost effective than cladding an entire building with natural stones, such as let's say Sand, or Lime Stone, etc. Durite® also used it's exterior techniques to encapsulate concrete building edges that continuously had spalling problems endlessly costing the building without any cure or limited liability in sight. Durite had to specialize in building resurfacing techniques and materials in order to rise above the normal practice of EIF-Systems.

Durite® created many unique materials used in highly visible projects, engineered and coordinated with designers. Durite® has trademarked and patented the "Durrazzo™ " (Durite Terrazzo) inlay systems. Any shapes, designs and colors combinations can be duplicated in terrazzo especially in artistic shapes that previously were too cost prohibitive to manufacture.

Durrazzo™ is a process that makes any design with tolerance of 1/16" possible. This process has eliminated the use of metal strips in terrazzo, especially when it was not possible or economically feasible for metal strips to be bent, curved and shaped to produce very fine jewelry precision designs. That is not to say that Durite's Durrazzo™ does not use metal strips such as Zinc, Brass, and Polyester Strips. On the contrary, Metal Strips enhances design and creates allowance for thermal expansion joints. Many Architects/Owner request metal strips as part of the outer edge design.

Durrazzo™ commissioned Artworks provides infinite possibilities for pre-fabrication needs. From Corporate Logo's used as "Inlays" in terrazzo floors to elegant stores front entrance, to pedestrian way finding signs in-bedded in terrazzo or concrete floors at airport terminals and parking structures adding new dimension to esthetic looks and functionality.

Durite® also produces Vanity Tops/ Kitchen Counter Tops/ Mini-Bars/ Stairs, for many major Hotels/Hi-risebuildings and Restaurants. Infinite Colors and mixed aggregates, from imported Mother-of-pearl to rare colored glass, terra-cotta, marble, quartz, granite, stone/glass pebble, mixed to order, creating solid or translucent surfaces, enhancing limited spaces and adding to Architectural elegance and esthetics. Durite® Vanity tops, Kitchen & Bar tabletops are widely used for outdoor and indoor usage on many highly visible and impressive projects.

Durite® produces cast stones, such as replicating Lime, SandStone, Brown Stone, Travertine and other natural or man made materials such as Terra-cotta, etc. Our ability to repair exterior natural stones, or replicating intricate design of natural stones is a skill. We work with many Architects to duplicate natural stones when cost was an issue. The advantages of cast stones to natural stones are Cost-effectiveness, lighter structure and framing for supporting the stones, (minimum 1/2" thick is 6-lbs/ sq-ft), Harder than natural stone (Compressive strength of epoxy is +/-12,000-psi three to four time stronger than concrete or marble), Density, (unlike porous natural stones, cast-stone is none-porous and none permeable creating natural water-proofing barrier). Restoration of deteriorated Architectural elements can be restored or duplicated. Figurines/ Art-Deco /Art-Nouveau tiles, masonry, stone furniture, Stairs tread covers, Veneer covering for front desks, podium, and fire-place mantels, are now as simple as scanning images and chipping away unwanted surface material.
